Our Story
Klawsome! is Michigan’s first stand-alone claw machine arcade, offering a unique and exciting experience where customers can test their skills to win kawaii-style plushies from vibrantly colored claw machines. These prizes can then be traded up for larger and rarer stuffed animals and anime figurines. Klawsome! is a family-owned local business based in Novi, Michigan, inspired by the popular arcades in Asian countries.
Where It All Began
The idea for Klawsome! was sparked by the owners' children's love for claw machines during a visit to their Lola (grandmother) in Las Vegas. Owners—Agnes and Michal—saw the joy and excitement it brought them, and wanted to share that same experience with the local community.
While visiting Las Vegas in 2023, the Filipowskis stumbled upon the first claw machine arcade to open in the area, in a strip mall near Agnes’ mother’s home. They were hooked after winning a bag full of their favorite Sanrio and other kawaii-style plushies. Since that time, they have visited numerous popular claw machine arcades in Vegas, Toronto and other cities in the U.S. Whenever they travel, they seek out clawcades!
Bringing Our Family & Culture Into Our Brand, Klawsome!
Michal and Agnes lived in Korea for three years, where their older two daughters were born. They traveled throughout Southeast Asia when based in Seoul, and continue to travel through the U.S. and Canada, finding clawcades within Asian neighborhoods and settings. Their children have been integral in every step, from creating the logo (each animal represents a child’s personality) and choosing the name (spelling with a K instead of a C to mimic Filipino alphabet) to selecting the adorable plushies they know their friends will love (Sanrio and friends are their favs!). Agnes and Michal are excited to empower them as young entrepreneurs.
As a Filipino-American woman, Agnes is passionate about sharing a piece of Asian culture with the community. (Notice the elements of the Filipino flag within the logo.) The family business, Klawsome! is more than just an arcade; it's a place for “kapwa” (connection and community in Tagalog, the Filipino language), where couples, friends and families can create lasting memories. Klawsome! is committed to providing a fun and rewarding experience for all ages, and the Filipowskis can't wait to see smiles on the customers' faces. Everyone comes away as a winner!
